We read....

Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close.

I liked it...others did not.

It was a good night. Surrounded by intelligent, strong, fun women.

It's what we as women need sometimes.

We laughed and shared and cried.

It was good.

And there was delicious food.

I made this and it was delicious.

Like it was just awkward to watch.

Even Glenn Close could not save that movie.

And I like quirky, sad, period pieces...but this....TERRIBLE.

Miss and I squirmed and looked away the whole time.

But we can check it off our list.

Oh and the banana bread? Not that good.

I don't think it is a secret.

I have haters.

I know who most are...even if they think they hide.

I will admit, my skin is not as thick as I would like people to think.

It hurts when hurtful things are said or thought about me.

There are a handful of people who know everything about me...actually three....and so as far as I am concerned they are the only ones who can judge.

I may seem worldly (I am) and sarcastic ( I am) and fierce ( I am)

But....

I have also hid in a closet hoping he did not find me and hit me

Been hit, hurt, broken

Questioned if I was ever loved

Cried myself to sleep wondering why I was so awful

Numbed every hurt feeling with drugs

Cried to my Heavenly Father in a jail cell

Redeemed myself

So until you truly know me....remember that this is a blog. A blog where I am mostly frivolous and silly.

I watched the entire first season in two days and I live for the new episodes every Sunday.

We have until February 26th....and we are going to do it.

It was great.

I mean little girl with a dying mom in the hospital....that's going to make bestie cry.

It was funny and sad and heartwarming.

Just like me.

Then yesterday we saw.....

And it was beautiful.

Like...I have not seen every best picture contender yet but...this has my vote.

It was so so so so great.

Black and white...not a word of dialogue and still so amazing.

It's an ironic nickname because Sweet Dee is not sweet at all. She is a b word (censored for my family).

And so...Sweet J...for the same reason.

Except I am a bit nicer than her....not by much.

Also when I google image searched for Sweet J I got this....

I can't make this stuff up.

When I first saw this I said...

"I am spending all the gift cards I got for Christmas on this"

I told Ed ....as I went to the website....that was what I was doing.

He tried to talk me out of it.

I said I was doing it.

Then I saw the price.

$700.

I think it is worth it.

I really do.

So...if I can be a size 4 in one month and the skirt is still available I am buying it.

And if anyone would like to know...that is impossible.

So maybe for craft night we can glue sequins to a skirt I already own.

As we enter this presidential year, we hear a lot on honor and integrity.

The candidates try and spin that they are the the candidate with the most integrity...that we can trust them.

We hear that this country needs this type of leader...that if not our country will end in moral decay.

I think....the true test of their so called honor is playing Words with Friends with them.

I am addicted to this game and I will play it with anyone..... and I KNOW a cheater.

I, of course, just let it go and shake my head but...

REALLY?

Have we fallen so far in our world that we have to cheat at a phone word game?

Is it so important that you win...that you cheat?

I will let you win if you will just play fair.

So I suggest Words with Friends is used a a moral barometer.

Soup

Last week I had bestie over for soup.

I made this delicious creation

Zupas Wisconsin Cauliflower Soup

It was fab.

And momentous....the soup called for onions and I USED them.

Usually when a recipe calls for onions I skip over that part. I hate onions. So my poor husband never gets them and sweet Navy will never know them.

I am gong to make this a tradition...perhaps bi-weekly.

Anyone have any good soup recipes they want to share?

Ed and I celebrated our 2 year anniversary on Saturday.

We went to the temple and then to Ruth's Chris (thanks Dad and Lori).

side note....ruth's chris is good but it has nothing on maddox and maddox is half the price.

I am very lucky to have such a great man.

He loves and takes care of me and our daughter.

He is an amazing father and husband.

So for all you single ladies who want an amazing guy...

well....

So now that I have an offspring I can finally achieve all the things I ever wanted to through her.

That is what motherhood is about right?

Here is the thing...I just want one thing.

I want her to sing.

And not just sing...I mean hell I sing...

I want her to sing like Jennifer Hudson, or Mercedes on Glee.

I want her to have a soulful voice.

I have a country voice...twang and all. It is what kept me from fame and glory on American Idol.

Well not my girl, we have started early with the Dreamgirls soundtrack.

I mean she is almost a month old...we are losing precious time. How will I ever get her on the Disney Channel if I am just puttering around letting her listen to Raffi.

Bestie Christmas

On Monday Bestie Miss and I had our annual Bestie Christmas.

Miss made me dinner....she made me fried chicken and mac and cheese all with just a fork, knife and a whisk. My dishes were dirty. She improvised.

We exchanged gifts. Usually we go all out...like hundreds of dollars. This year we put a $20 dollar limit on each other (with an extra $20 for/from Navy).

Miss got me those delicious tights you see. Plus a baby book and an environmentally liberal pop up book.

It was fab. She is a great gift giver.

And for some reason...we rarely take pictures together....so this is the only documentation of the event.

I forgot that I bought her a Dr Pepper Lip Smackers.

That will have to wait for next year.

Truths

So I have almost been a mother for two weeks.

In that two weeks I have learned a lot.

I thought I would impart my wisdom...seeing how I am practically an expert now.

Things I have learned about being a mom....

My house is covered in breast milk...seriously...it gets everywhere

Getting ready for the day is a luxury....I barely shower

I cry a lot...like when I run out of chicken

Nothing EVER goes how I imagined. She wears pink, uses the paci's I despised and is being supplemented with formula. All things I said would never happen.

I cannot fit in my pre pregnancy clothes yet. I seriously thought that would happen in a week

I don't know WHY we use diapers because my baby waits until the diaper is off to do her business

My washer/dryer usage has doubled

Remember how I thought I would be bored not working....HA

I mean this is just a partial list....but the biggest thing I learned.

I love more than I have ever loved.

So remember how I asked for advice on what to take to the hospital.....

Like how I posted that on December 7th?

Yeah I hope you posted fast that day.

Because on December 7th at 4:28 PM

Navy Loral Parker

was born.

6lbs 11oz 20 inches long

I was not planning on that day....but I hear that is just what happens sometimes.

I had a doctors appointment that day and we decided he would induce me on Monday the 12th.

As a side note....I mentioned to him that I did not feel her kick as much as I used to. He asked me a few questions and decided as a precautionary measure I should go get a stress test. So he set one up for that day and Saturday the 10th.

Note: I had debated whether or not to tell the doctor about the movements. I did not want to seem overly paranoid. But I was prompted like 20394928374298 that day to tell him. This is the first of many times that I publicly thank my Heavenly Father for his love for me and my sweet daughter.

So off I went to Lakeview hospital for my test. I was only going to be there 20-30 minutes. I brought my Real Simple magazine. I had plans to wrap gifts and finish neighbor gifts that day.

They hooked me up to the monitor and in 15 minutes a nurse came in and said "we have called Dr Pead..we think we are going to need to take this baby today...like soon".

I just stared at her. For like what felt like long minutes. Just stared. I opened my mouth and the only thing I could think of to say was "but I am in one hour parking and I have on a Social Distortion shirt". Now it was the nurses turn to stare at me as she asked "Jennifer do you understand what I said?". I blankly said yes

I asked if she was ok...they were vague. They just kept telling me they needed to get her out ASAP.

It was 2:15. I was taken back at 3:45. In that time....

I finished my Real Simple article

I cried

I shook

I called my husband, my mom, my dad, my bestie

I signed consent form after consent form

I realized we were doing a c-section

I cried more

I shook more

I prayed

At 3:30 my husband and his father arrived to give me a blessing. After they finished I was whisked away to the operating room for my spinal block. Ummmm I hated that.

Once it was in it was a blur....a sheet went up...Ed came in...I threw up....I shook and cried.

5 minutes later...my sweet girl was out.

I cried and cried and kept asking if she was ok...she was having trouble breathing. But then I heard the beautiful sound of her screaming and I just lost it. The doctors and nurses talked among themselves and all I heard was...

"that was rough"

"cord around the neck"

"placenta causing distress"

"breech"

The doctor finally spoke to me and all he said was "thank you for listening to your body and telling me about the movements....if you had waited even one more day this would have been a different story". I had nurses huddled outside...praying that she was safe. I found out later that a very similar thing had happened just that Monday in the hospital and the baby had been still born.

Note: I would again like to publicly thank my Heavenly Father. I was told over and over again in that hospital how lucky I was, how blessed she was. It is by the grace of God she is here.

They brought her to me....and Ed was there.

It was beautiful.

She was beautiful.

They stitched and stapled me and took me back to my room.

I was alone for like five minutes.

It was quiet.

I thought about how 6 years ago I was in the exact same hospital detoxing from drugs...and here I was now married with a beautiful healthy daughter. I was shaking all over from the block...and I just cried and cried. Grateful for everything I have been given and the blessings in my life.

And so she is here.

And I am serious she is beautiful.

Welcome to the world little one.

You are our miracle.

Note: For all of you who were sure I would be a bad mother because I do not like pink or Hello Kitty please note, I did what was most important...I listened to my Heavenly Father.

The storm of the century came through Utah on Thursday.

It woke Ed Parker and I up at like midnight and then I did not sleep again.

It was like a freight train was ripping through our house.

It was pretty scary.

Knocked semi's over

Blew off signs

Uprooted trees

Destroyed peoples homes

We are lucky that all the damage we had is one missing wreath and a hole in our fence.

Our electricity was out for only a day...while others still do not have electricity.

I am grateful for our safety and the safety of all those we know.

And one thing is for sure....

I will not make it at the end of days.

The fact that besties birthday went off without a hitch. At least I think it did.

It is her 30th birthday today.

Miracles in safety that have happened for this little one.

This is Catherine.

She is my sweet sister.

I have four sweet sisters that I inherited...I love them all.

Last summer (2010) my little one was in a car accident that almost took her from us.

This summer she got married and now they are expecting baby on the way.

Today she got into ANOTHER car accident.

She is ok.....baby is ok....but it was a scare none the less.

I love her...to bits and bits. And I would die if anything happened to her or her sweet little growing family.

So today I am thankful for miracles and for my Heavenly Father who provides them.

They are the perfect stretch and the perfect fit.

Every time I go to the outlets I load up...seriously I will buy 15 at a time. They have every color imaginable at the outlet.

And as the days grow closer to the due date...they are really all that fit me.

So tonight was our wards Halloween carnival.

I love seeing all the sweet little costumes.

I had two conversations with two cute friends that made me realize I am doomed.

First convo with first cute friend started with me telling her how fab her costume was...she said...

"thanks my mom made it"

Second convo with second cute friend started "come see my kids"

And they were the cutest Mickey and Minnie Mouse.

I said they were so cute...she said....

"thanks my grandma made them"

It was then I realized the horror....I need a seamstress. Like NOW.

How will I have any cute costumes???? How will Girl Baby survive????

I had a baby shower.

Thrown by my bestie Miss.

It was PERFECTION. Honestly the perfect shower.

It was the perfect day (76 degrees in the middle of October in Utah...Miss prayed HARD for that)

I had the perfect people there

It was in the perfect location (thank you Cydney)

Do...you...DIE. miss did all types of cakes with all types of sweet decorations. She baked for a WEEK. Every time I would Hey Tell her she would tell me she was baking or crafting.

I bought tickets awhile ago for the Nickelback concert, and didn't really think much of it. Now I'm 35 weeks pregnant and was wondering if it's bad for the baby's ears. My husband's co-worker said it may be bad. I'm scared about it, so I'm just not going, but now I'm curious. I don't want to call the doc, but just get your opinions. Can loud music hurt the baby's ears in the last stages of pregnanct?

Miss - Are you out of breath?

Me - No just in pain...it feels like the bones in my crotch are being pulled apart slowly.

Miss - Well I have been in a lot of recovery rooms and I know you get a cloth diaper or a pad and soak it cold water and then shove it down your crotch. I hear it is very soothing.

Me - Well ok then.

I mean I am dealing, because that is what you do and I am not the first pregnant woman to feel like her bones are being crushed. But my bestie (who has not given birth) knew what would make it feel better.

A cold maxi pad and tylenol.

But I tried a recipe tonight...TDF (to die for)

Golden Lemon-Olive Chicken with Pine Nut Couscous

remember on RHONY when sonja did not want to go to morocco because she did not like couscous....

If I made it again I would probably cut down on the lemons just a tad...it was pretty strong....but delicious.

Also I did not add onions (gross) of saffron (gold in a bottle)

Anyways....try it out. It is not my recipe so if you hate it...blame Rachel Ray.

So my husband and I registered for Girl Baby on Saturday.

Again I will remind that I am super excited for baby.

But....

Registering is AWFUL.

There are 2398742342987423948734 things this baby apparently needs.

It was not so bad until we got to bottles and pacifiers and breast pumps.

FREAK pacifiers. There are so many.

We had decided on the MAM paci route before we got there but then I ran into the pink issue. That I ran into EVERYWHERE. So we registered for green and yellow and prayed that there would not be too many people who asked what HIS name is or how old is HE.

And then...I swore I would not register for a breast pump and guess what I DID. Because the one I want is super spency and I get 10% off everything on my registry if I buy it. So yeah there is a breast pump on my registry as well as a Jewel Lullaby CD and strips to test if there is booze in your breast milk (thank you Ed Parker).

And we were surrounded by the excited couples who could not wait to register. The ones who looked at every little thing and were always in my way. And then I felt bad that I was thinking this is what hell would be. But I am pretty sure I am right.

So now we are registered. Babies R Us and Target.

I mean does this mean I am an adult?

I got to thinking, are my new found pregnant posts boring?

I started working at 17. At a Dee's Dancewear in Phoenix.

I have been working ever since.

I love to work.

So when we found out we we having sweet girl baby, It was a no brainer for me...I would keep working.

Granted I was going to work from home and I was going to do both like a champ.

Deep down.....I knew it was not right.

This nagging feeling has followed me for 6 months.

Thursday I broke. I went into my boss and said...

"I am not coming back after baby"

The minute I said it I started to cry. I knew it was the right thing....but I want to to work.

And so.....starting November 18th I will be a stay at home mom.

And to be honest...I am a little sad.

And a little more budgeted.

Sun coming up in the morning

I will always love delicious Diet Coke

My husband will always love me

My Family will always love me

My Bestie will always be there

I will always be loud

and

When there are cops in our neighborhood I can text Magali at 12:30 in the AM and we will figure out what's going on.

It will go something like this....

"Magali you call the cops on your neighbors?"

"No why? I have been in my basement watching Intervention for the past two hours"

"Fool they have been pounding on your neighbors door for like fifteen minutes"

"What?"

This went on for an hour and I will have you know by the time I was done giving the move by move report of what the cops were doing she had figured out what was going on.

So no worries neighbors, if the cops show up at your door we will have our blinds open watching it all go down until 1:30 in the AM.

Also 311 is a terrible band.

Know It All

I actually call it knows everything about everything.

It makes my BLOOD BOIL.

When I ask a someone a question and KIA answers.

Or when I am having a conversation and KIA interjects his knowledge.

KIA know everything about music, movies, work, food, love, fashion, so on and so on.

And now I have it DAILY in STEREO.

Not to mention both are also PWTTF

Is why the rest of the world makes fun of America.

But it is a great test to see what individuals...in the theater where you saw the preview...laugh at this crap. So you can punch them in the face on the way out of the theater for being the demographic that allows movies like this to be made.

Am I really watching this?

The answer is yes.

I am not a Bachelor/Bachelorette viewer.

I do not know who any of these people are.

But I have some friends who said I needed to watch.

So I did.

Woah....trashy.

I mean I watch EVERY Real Housewife and this show has them BEAT in the trash.

There were some pretty sweet lines like:

"I have gained 30 pounds of sheer muscle"

"She is not my type she is a little thick"

"I am literally in the best shape of my life"

But the one mystery that alludes me is this.

Vienna

She is the ugliest girl I have ever seen. AND she has a lazy eye. AND she won the heart of a Bachelor.

How HOW HOW HOW did that happen? Someone tell me.

So I guess I will keep watching to see if this question can be answered.

Baby Bedding

Well we found a crib, bookshelf, and dresser.

We know the paint.

We bought the prints.

And today Miss showed me the way to these.....

And now we have bedding.

These sweet sheets and blankets come from Auggie.

Are they not TO DIE FOR.

Got married on August 5th.

She was a BEAUTIFUL bride and the man she married is great.

This little one has a special place in my heart and I cried that whole day.

Her wedding was beautiful.

She had her beautiful sisters beside her and I am grateful that I am part of that.

Congrats my little miss....may you be eternally happy.

I don't know if it is sweet baby craving or just the 5 year old in me but lately.....

I LOVE ME A CAPRISUN.

Seriously...they are delicious. Like I have passed up Diet Cokes for them.

I mean like I could drink a friggin 12 pack no joke.

Ed even asked me if he could buy it in the bottles and I was like...hell no...mama wants her the pouch.

Baby Shower

So tonight while in AZ Catherine allowed me to steal her thunder.

Mama Lori and sisters threw me a shower.

It was so fun to see everyone and visit.

My mom surprised me and came down........

I got to visit with friends from my younger years who I still love and cherish dearly. I am so glad I got to spend time with them.....

My sweet sisters who have adopted me as their own.....

I got to see all my Aunts and cousins.....

I opened fab gifts...this picture does not do this blanket justice....it was amazing.....

And all thanks to Mama Lori and the girls.

And Ed who knocked me up.

AND I am happy to say...very little pink.

Grammie asks sweet girl to pick out a book

Little Tiger's Big Surprise.

Little Tiger was very happy being an only tiger, so when mommy tiger said "there's going to be a new baby, you'll have a little brother or a little sister," little tiger answered.....

sweet boy one - I want to see

Grammie - ok well then move over here

sweet boy one moves

Grammie - no no not in front of the sweet boy two because then he won't be able to see...

sweet boy one moves again

"but I don't want a new baby, I like things the way they are." Little tiger went to call on Little Elephant but to his dismay, Little Elephant didn't want to play. "I'm teaching my baby brother how to squirt water," he trumpeted

So I mean I am sure you know that I am a pretty big deal.

So big in fact that Ed and I rode in the 24th of July parade in Lyman, WY

I mean I don't mean to brag but we have a family float.

My grandpa had 17 brothers and sisters so there is like 600 of us.....no joke.

Ed loved waving. I mean if my sweet little Elektra (that is the name we are thinking of) is a pageant queen it will be thanks to Ed and his fabulous wave.
